The reset
A Gentle 7-Day Digital Detox (No Cold Turkey Required)
Each day adds one small change. By Sunday you have a system, not a willpower contest.
Most digital detoxes fail the same way most crash diets do: dramatic restriction, brief success, full rebound. This plan takes the opposite approach — seven days, one small change per day, nothing you'll need heroics to sustain.
Day 1 — Measure
Just look. Open Screen Time (iOS) or Digital Wellbeing (Android) and write down your daily average and your top three apps. No judgment, only data. You can't redesign what you haven't seen.
Day 2 — Clear the home screen
Move your top three time-sinks off the first screen and into a folder. Out of sight is genuinely out of mind; the reach breaks when the icon isn't where your thumb expects it.
Day 3 — Silence the non-humans
Turn off every notification that isn't a person trying to reach you. Phantom buzzes fade within days.
Day 4 — Add friction
Put an entry task or pause in front of your number-one app. This is the keystone day — the pause does the deciding your willpower was failing to do. It's exactly what apps like Wait a Minute are built for.
Day 5 — Protect the edges
No phone for the first 30 minutes of the day and the last 30 before bed. Charge it outside the bedroom tonight.
Day 6 — Plan the replacement
Pick one offline thing you keep meaning to do, and schedule it into the hole your top app used to fill.
Day 7 — Review and keep two
Compare your numbers with Day 1, then keep the two changes that felt easiest. Sustainable beats impressive — two habits you keep outperform seven you resent.
One tool worth trying
Wait a Minute puts a calm moment between you and your most magnetic apps — entry tasks before an app opens, and an Earn Screen Time mode that unlocks a reward app only after time spent in a good-habit one.
